SWIFT GUIDE TO CHOOSING TILL ROLLS

Step 1: Measuring your till roll
If you are wondering, how to determine your till rolls, the first thing is to take the right measurement. Be sure to measure precisely so the roll will fit your equipment. You will notice that till rolls are always listed with three measurements: Width, Diameter & Core. Due to this industry format, when taking your measurements be sure to write them in this format - WxDxC.

Width: Look at your till roll as if you were reading a printed receipt and measure from left to right edges.

Diameter: Measure the full diameter from edge to edge going directly through the centre hole of the roll (the core). It is not essential to get this particular measurement exact. You may use a smaller roll in your equipment – it will simply run out faster!

Core: This is the diameter of the gap in the centre of the roll in which the spindle of the equipment fits. There are three popular sizes in the market place: 12.7mm, 17.7mm and 25.4mm. If your till rolls sit in a well and does not use a spindle-style set up, the dimension of the core does not matter. Although, in this case it is more economical to choose the smaller core so you get the maximum amount of paper.

Step 2: Determining the type of till roll
You now need to determine which type of till roll you need.

Single-ply: used in impact (dot matrix) printers. If your equipment uses a ribbon, you can use a 1-ply till roll.

Multiple-ply: used in impact (dot matrix) printers. If your equipment uses a ribbon, you can use a 2-ply or multiple-ply till roll.

Thermal paper: used in machines with a thermal print head (without the need for a ribbon). Print on this format is economical, but will fade from the paper slowly over-time.

Action paper: some dot matrix printers will use action paper instead of ribbons. This enables the print to be carried though to multiple layers of till receipts without using a ribbon.
